14. The Traditional Villages of Granichar, Tverdica, Chernomorci and Vaklino
A walk around
these small villages west of Dourankoulak will give
you an insight
into rural life in this remote border region. Tverditsa,
reached by
a rutted road, has traditional single storey farm houses around an old
mill, geese, sheep and goats on the green and real atmosphere. Granichar
is a large thriving community where old
and new hoeses
are surrounded by flourishing flower and vegetable gardens, and tethered
cows, calves and donkeys graze on verges outside. Chernomorci has one of
the red and blue painted framed wells,
typical of
the area.
