The walk along cliff paths through drifts of wild, red peonies to find the remains of the Byzantine town and fortress overlooking the rocky shores of the Black Sea, is magical. You can
clearly see the marks of cartwheels on the threshold of one of the gates of the 5th century fortress and the grooves for the portcullis on another. In Spring and early Summer you have to search amongst a luxurious cover of flowers and scented herbs for rock tombs, a small necropolis, wine presses ans cave dwellings.
